Scrapbooks. No. 42 and 260, 1879-1935.

Stevens maintained scrapbooks concerning social, political, and economic issues, and the management of his farm while spending the summers at his farm in Morris County, Kansas. Scrapbook no. 42 contains almost exclusively newspaper clippings, dating from 1885 to 1929 (not in chronological order). Much of what appears in this scrapbook are articles written by himself and John J. Ingalls, or concerns such subjects as Francisco Vasquez de Coronado; Senator Preston Plumb; Kansas history; agriculture; prohibition; John Brown; Kansas Governor W. Roscoe Stubbs; the prisons at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; the Pony Express; eugenics; the Santa Fe Trail; the Dalton Gang; Mennonites in Kansas; and a wide variety of other Kansas miscellany. Scrapbook No. 260 pertains to the management and leasing of farmland in Morris County, Kansas owned by Walter B. Stevens.

Preston Plumb was born October 12, 1837 at Berkshire, Delaware County, Ohio. He was the first born of, David and Hannah Marie (Bierce) Plumb. He later added the middle name to improve the appearance of his signature. David was a wagon maker and Preston worked with him in his shop.
